WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point football team officially accepted its bid in person to the Zaxby's Heart of Dallas Bowl on Monday afternoon.
Before a team meeting, Army head coach Jeff Monken and Vice President of Events for ESPN Clint Overby, joined in a firm handshake to confirm acceptance into the Black Knights' first bowl appearance since 2010.
The game is slated for Dec. 27 at the historic Cotton Bowl Stadium in Dallas, Texas, with kickoff set for 11 a.m. Central Time (Noon ET). The contest will also be broadcast live on ESPN.
"It's very exciting," said Overby. "Anytime you get the military academy in one of your games it's absolutely fantastic, so to have Army in our game and represent itself after the year its had is great. It's an honor to come up and speak with the team. To see stuff like this and those people who are really dedicating themselves to something bigger than I've dedicated myself to something in my life, it's pretty inspiring and frankly humbling."
Army will face North Texas in the game, which is a rematch of an earlier meeting where the Mean Green recorded a 35-18 victory at Michie Stadium on Oct. 22. The Black Knights' sixth bowl appearance will mark the third-straight time Army plays a bowl game in the state of Texas.
