WEST POINT, N.Y. - The Army West Point football team will honor those, past and present, of the 82nd Airborne Division with a special uniform for the Army-Navy Game, presented by USAA.
The 82nd Airborne Division is one of America's most responsive forces. To honor their commitment to service, the school will add a new "Paratrooper" look, complete with black and muted gray jersey and pants, to its uniform collection.

"What a great opportunity we have to tell a story of American heroes to the American people through our Army-Navy uniform," Army West Point Director of Athletics Boo Corrigan said. "We cannot thank Nike and the USMA Department of History enough for their collaboration to make this project possible. At West Point, we are a team of teams and our teammates with the Department of History were the experts we turned to for historical accuracy. Thank you COL Ty Seidule, LTC Dave Siry, CPT Kyle Hatzinger, Dr. Steve Waddell, Dr. John Stapleton and Mark Danley.Â
Â
"We hope that the American people will be inspired just as much as our team when they learn about the West Point graduates of the 82nd Airborne and all of the soldiers' impact on American history. We are excited to continue this collaboration and tell stories of our Army heroes for years to come."

The uniform design pays homage to authentic WWII era paratrooper jump suits with division patch, oversized 48-star American flag patch, player name tapes, full-color historical unit patches and an improvised camo base layer. Additionally, initial members of the 82nd Airborne Division represented each of the continental states, informing their "All American" nickname and iconic "AA" shoulder patch.Â
"Our team is extremely inspired and humbled to be wearing a uniform that represents the 82nd Airborne," head coach Jeff Monken said. "We always talk about the brotherhood and those who have come before us. I don't believe there is a better way to honor those soldiers of valor, courage and sacrifice, than to wear their patches and adopt their mottos for the greatest rivalry in sports."

The helmet design highlights the netting and hand-painted camouflage shapes that help disrupt the form, along with showcasing and array of authentic, era-specific battalion icons. Army West Point branding completes the Long Gray Line that connects the current cadet corps to their brothers in arms.
The Black Knights will wear the "Paratrooper" look on December 10, 2016.
