Army Kicks Off Bowl Practice Prep In Dallas
December 22, 2016 | Football
DALLAS, Texas – The Army West Point football team touched down in Texas and quickly jumped back into the swing of things on Thursday night.
The Black Knights regrouped after a couple days off for their first practice in the Lone Star State. The warmer weather when the Black Knights landed quickly disappeared once the sun went down to make for a chilly practice at Gerald J. Ford Stadium.
Army was familiar with its practice facility as the Cadets used Southern Methodist University amenities. SMU was the site of the Black Knights' last bowl game in which Army defeated the Mustangs 16-14 to win the 2010 Armed Forces Bowl.
The hype around Thursday's practice felt just like that bowl game as players were excited about having the opportunity to spend a couple more days together out on the gridiron. Â
Head coach Jeff Monken started the practice with some special team's drills. The areas of interest were punt returns, rushing the punter/kicker and punting. The team then broke up to go through positional drills before closing practice with its traditional fourth-quarter drill. The drill focused on getting ball off the goal line as an offensive unit and stopping opponents in their own end on the defensive side.
Thursday's practice was the first of five additional ones that the Black Knights will use before taking on North Texas on Dec. 27 in the Zaxby's Heart of Dallas Bowl.
Play of the Day:Â Edgar Poe had a juggling catch on the sideline during 1-on-1 drills against the defensive backs.
