Army Heads to St. Bonaventure on Monday

WEST POINT, N.Y. – Army remains away from Christl Arena for its final nonconference road test of the year at St. Bonaventure on Monday.
That game is slated for a 7 p.m. tip and can be watched live on Time Warner Sports Channel (check local listings).
The Black Knights saw their three-game winning streak snapped during their last outing at Monmouth on Dec. 10. Army and Monmouth actually both had winning streaks on the line in that game as the Hawks have now won seven straight, while sitting tops of the MAAC standings with a league mark of 2-0. In St. Bonaventure's last outing they defeated Niagara 79-69 as part of the Big 4 Classic held in Buffalo, N.Y. The Bonnies have won four of their last five games with their only loss an 81-80 decision against UNC Wilmington.

TWIN FIGURES
Sophomore Jordan Fox and rookie Tommy Funk are both riding a double figure scoring streak. Fox is sitting at four straight games, while Funk has recorded double digits in Army's last three outings. During that span, Fox led the Black Knights in scoring twice, while Funk posted a career-best 13 points on two different occasions.
ABOUT THE BONNIES
Jaylen Adams leads St. Bonaventure averaging 22.8 points per game. Also averaging double digits is Matt Mobley and Denzel Gregg with 19.8 and 12.0 points for contest, respectively. Leading the Bonnies on the boards is Gregg, who pulls down 7.2 rebounds per game. Mobley is also chipping in his fair share, posting 6.7 rebounds per outing as well. Adams dishes out a team-best 6.1 assists per contest, while he also averages 2.0 steals.
LAST TIME OUT
Army dropped an 81-71 decision at Monmouth on Dec. 10 in its last outing. The Hawks continued their seven-game winning streak, while the Black Knights' streak ended at three games. Three reached double figures for Army with Tommy Funk leading the way. The rookie registered a team-high 13 points, which matched his career-best effort. He finished 3-of-9 from the floor and 7-of-9 from the charity stripe. The Warrington, Pa., native closed out his night with four rebounds and assists.
Also notching double digits was Jordan Fox and Scott Mammel with 11 and 10 points, respectively. Fox went 4-of-6 from the floor and 3-of-4 from long range, while Mammel converted on 3-of-8 from the floor, 3-of-6 from downtown and 1-of-2 from the charity stripe. Matt Wilson was one rebound shy of reaching twin figures on the boards. The first-year pulled down nine to lead the Black Knights and chipped in eight points. Luke Morrison was a close second with seven rebounds.
Jaylen Adams posted a game-high 23 points and handed out seven assists while Denzel Gregg delivered 16 points to lead St. Bonaventure past Niagara, 79-69, in the Big 4 Classic at Key Bank Center on Saturday. St. Bonaventure (7-3) used a big first half run to take control of the contest, stretching ahead by a 32-17 score with 5:46 remaining in the opening stanza.
Niagara would respond by finishing the half on a 14-2 break, closing to a 34-31 margin at halftime following a long three from James Towns a second before the buzzer. It was just a two-point game, 47-45, with 13:30 to play before Adams hit the accelerator. The junior guard launched a personal 11-0 run, draining three shots from long range and adding a pair of free throws on four consecutive trips down the floor to push the Bona lead back to 58-45.
From there the Purple Eagles got as close as eight on two occasions, but the Bonnies did not relinquish control.
A WIN OVER ST. BONAVENTURE WOULD...
Hand Army its sixth win of the season and pull the Cadets over .500 on the year with an overall record of 6-5. It would also mark Army's second victory over the Bonnies, making the all-time series in favor of the Black Knights at 2-1.
ARMY VS. ATLANTIC-10 TEAMS
The Black Knights are 53-89 all-time against current members of the A-10. Of the 14 schools in the league, Army has faced Fordham (82 times), La Salle (18 times) and George Washington (14 times) the most. Army leads four series against A-10 schools in Davidson (1-0), Massachusetts (7-0), Rhode Island (1-0), and Saint Joseph's (3-2). The Cadets have also competed against Dayton (0-2), Duquesne (1-3), Fordham (30-52), George Washington (5-9), La Salle (4-14) Richmond (0-6), and St. Bonaventure (1-1).
