December 13, 2016 | Men's Track and Field
West Point, N.Y., - The Army West Point men's track and field team was picked to finish third in the Patriot League's annual preseason poll.
Â
Army will look to climb the rankings with 32 athletes returning and 25 first-years joing the team. Senior captains Jose Santana, Nick Beavers, Trevor Touchton and Matt Bearden will look to pass on their wisdom to this young team as they head into the indoor season.
Â
Navy, the defending men's champion, received 128 points and all 16 available first place votes to finish atop the preseason poll. After finishing second at last year's Patriot League championships, Boston University placed second with 109 point and one first place vote. The rest of the field is as follows: Army (103, one first place vote), Bucknell (85), Lehigh (75), Holy Cross (51), Lafayette (43), American (26) and Colgate (19).
Voting for both the preseason poll and All-Patriot League Team was conducted by the women's cross country head coaches and sports information directors who were not permitted to vote for their own team or student-athletes.
Â
The Black Knights opened their 2016 campaign hosting the Crowell Open. The freshmen dominated, capturing multiple victories, while some of the upperclassmen started the season in style by breaking into the Army Top 10 record list.
Â
Army will look to stay hot as they travel to the Wagner Invitational in Staten Island, N.Y., on Jan 6.Â
