Army West Point Athletics
Feature Friday: Breaking the Family Mold
December 01, 2016 | Rifle
Feature Friday highlights the tremendous personal stories our coaches and cadet-athletes have to share on a weekly basis. Each Friday, a new feature story will be prominently highlighted on GoArmyWestPoint.com. The features will include multi-media pieces, as well as written stories by media outlets and the Army West Point athletic communications staff.
"I'm a history major," said senior shooter Libby Mostert. "I see the influence that people can have on the world and on other people, and the Army works with the people. The Army is a service of the people before it is a service of anything else."Â
A family legacy is a strong force when a young student is trying to decide where they should attend college. For Mostert, it looked like she was destined to go to Navy. Her father graduated from the Navel academy in 1979, her godfather even graduated as a Mid in 1982, but this isn't what Mostert wanted. She knew that she wanted to do something along the lines to what her father had done, but she also knew that the U.S. Military Academy was her first choice.Â
As soon as she got recruited to be a part of the rifle team at Army, Mostert knew that is where she wanted to go. Though her parents kept reminding her that maybe she wanted to go Navy, she kept telling them no and that her heart was set on going to Army.
