2017 Baseball Schedule
WEST POINT, N.Y. – Army West Point baseball announces a very competitive schedule for the Black Knights during their 2017 campaign.
Head Coach Jim Foster, who took the reins of Army baseball in June, has arranged a 52-game slate that features 18 contests in the friendly confines of Doubleday Field at Johnson Stadium. Army will also serve as the host team for two additional games that will be played nearby at Dutchess Stadium in Fishkill, N.Y., home of the Hudson Valley Renegades who compete in the New York-Penn League.
Of those 52 games, Army will face five teams that made it to the NCAA tournament just a year ago. The Black Knights will also have nine games against teams that finished 2016 in the Top 100 in RPI and one contest against a team that placed in the Top 25.
"We're excited to kick off the 2017 campaign," Foster said. "Since arriving this fall, our coaching staff has been hard at work with the team and we are all excited to be a part of such a special program. I think our non-conference schedule will be very challenging and will prepare us well for conference and postseason play."
The Black Knights open their season down in the New Orleans area, where they face service-academy rival Air Force, LSU and Tulane. Army's games against Air Force (Feb. 17) and LSU (Feb. 18) will be played at LSU's home venue, Alex Box Stadium, while the two games against Tulane (Feb. 17 & 19) will be played on Tulane's home soil at Turchin Stadium.
For the second and third weekend of the season, the Black Knights will meet up with ACC foe Duke (Feb. 24-26) and Big South member High Point (March 3-5) for a three-game series.
"Opening up against Air Force, LSU, and Tulane the first weekend of the season and Duke the second weekend will have plenty of challenges presented to us that we are looking forward to," Foster added. "We are going to play the best schedule we possibly can every year. Hopefully in 2018 fans will see the addition of some games in a few major league parks. We will need the support of Army West Point fans and alumni everywhere."
After back-to-back weekends in North Carolina, Army heads to Georgia and South Carolina for its annual spring break trip. The Black Knights will first compete at a tournament-type event put on by Perfect Game on March 10-12, when they'll face off against Bowling Green, Georgia State and a team to be named later. To wrap up their time in Atlanta, Army will meet up with Alabama State for two games on March 14-15, before heading to the Palmetto State. Three games at Presbyterian from March 17-19 will close out the Black Knights' week-long trip.
Army then finally opens up its home schedule with a weekend doubleheader against Harvard on March 25-26.
One additional game on the road at Siena on March 28 will prepare the Black Knights for their Patriot League slate, which is set to begin with doubleheaders at Lafayette on April 1-2.
Besides conference twin bills with Bucknell (April 8-9), Holy Cross (April 15-16), and Navy (April 22-23), the Black Knights will also be matched up against Manhattan (April 4 & 11), Albany (April 18), Marist (April 26), LIU Brooklyn (May 3), Hartford (May 6-7), and Villanova (May 10).
Army's opening game with Manhattan on April 4 will be the first one played at Dutchess Stadium. The Black Knights' contest with Marist on April 26, which is the 12th Annual Hudson Valley Baseball Classic, will be the other.
The 2017 Patriot League Tournament will be played over two weekends, with the semifinals scheduled for May 13-14 and the championship series slated for May 20-21. The top four seeds will qualify for the postseason tournament and games will be played at the home field of the highest seed. Both rounds will follow the best-of-three format and the winner will earn an automatic bid into the NCAA tournament. NCAA regional action is scheduled for June 2-4, followed by the super regionals June 9-11. College baseball's national champion will be crowned in Omaha, Neb., at the College World Series on June 17-28.
