17 Black Knights Named to All-CSFL Teams

WEST POINT, N.Y. – Seventeen members of the Army West Point sprint football team were named to the All-Collegiate Sprint Football League (CSFL) teams, the league announced Monday afternoon.
Seven Black Knights were named to the first team, while five garnered both second team and honorable mention recognition.
Penn's quarterback Mike McCurdy earned the Bob Cullen Trophy as the CSFL Player of the Year, while quarterback Michael Marino from Chestnut Hill was named the league's Freshman of the Year.
Ty Galyean, Luke Fazzari, John Abercrombie, Seth Wills, Angelo Matz, Matthew Tamburri and Christian Hess were all named to the league's first team. Â
Galyean earned his second postseason award from the CSFL after being awarded honorable mention recognition last season. The junior from Rogers, Ark., set career highs in receptions (20), receiving yards (340) and touchdowns (7). He finished third in the league in scoring and 10th in receiving yards per game.
Fazarri notched his second-consecutive All-CSFL First Team honor as the team's center. The senior from Walla Walla, Wash., helped Army's offense amass nearly 2,500 yards.
Abercrombie continued Army's success in the kicking game, garnering the team's fourth-straight first team kicker selection. The sophomore went 8-for-10 on field goals, while connecting on 28-of-32 extra points. His longest field goal of the season was from 44 yards against Mansfield. Abercrombie's 52 points was second in the league behind Navy's Brandon Clements' 72 points.
Wills was the CSFL's busiest punt returner in his rookie season, hauling in 34 punts for 396 yards and a touchdown. No other returner in the league had double-digit returns. The Oakland, Calif., native scored his first-career touchdown on a 63-yard punt return against Mansfield.
Matz tied for the league-lead in sacks with seven for 62 yards and led the CSFL with 12 tackles for a loss of 78 yards. The Port Jervis, N.Y., native totaled 41 tackles (22 solo, 19 assisted) as well as breaking up a pass and blocking two kicks, all of which were single-season highs.
Tamburri was the captain of the defense and led the Black Knights in tackles for the second season in a row. The Marlboro, N.Y., native was named to the first team for the second time and earned his third league honor, also collecting honorable mention accolades as a freshman. He compiled 47 tackles (22 solo, 25 assisted), with 4.5 for a loss of 13 yards and half a sack. Tamburri also recorded his third-career interception, recovered the first fumble of his career and blocked a field goal.
Hess earned his first CSFL honors after leading Army with two interceptions and was second on the team with seven pass break ups. The Madison, Ala., native recorded 13 tackles, including 12 solo efforts, and 1.5 for a loss of three yards. Hess scored his first-career touchdown on a 14-yard return against Mansfield.
Austin Breed and Jesse Helms earned second team recognition on offense, while Curtis Jerzerick, Tanner Andrews and Taylor Ragland landed on the second team for their defensive accomplishments.
Breed was named to the league's second team for the second year in a row, after finishing his senior season tied for ninth in the CSFL in receptions per game with 3.3, documenting 23 catches in seven contests. The Paris, Ark., native closed out his season with 314 yards and four receiving touchdowns.
Helms was alongside Fazzari on the offensive line that blocked for the second-best scoring offense in the CSFL, starting in all seven games as a sophomore. The Marshville, N.C., native earned his first league honor.
Jerzerick, who earned honorable mention recognition in 2015, improved upon his All-CSFL status as a junior. The Lewistown, Pa., native tied for ninth in the league with 47 tackles (16 solo, 31 assisted), in addition to 6.5 tackles for a loss of 17 yards and 2.5 sacks for a loss of 12 yards.
Andrews earned his second all-league postseason honor in as many seasons, after making the first team a season ago. The junior from Elburn, Ill., documented 31 tackles, including a team-best 22 solo tackles, to go along with eight for a loss of 21 yards and 1.5 sacks for a loss of 10 yards. The junior defensive back also broke up four passes and had his eighth-career interception.
Joining Andrews in the defensive backfield was Ragland, who recorded a team-high 10 pass break ups as a junior. The Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., native accumulated 22 tackles (16 solos, six assisted), with half a sack for a loss of three yards. Ragland also recorded an interception,which was the second of his career.
Keegan West, Marqus Burrell, Zack Knight, James Scroggins and Jake Marchillo notched honorable mention recognition.
West emerged as the starting quarterback for the Black Knights in the second half of the season, and had a stretch of three games in which he threw for four touchdowns. The West Point, N.Y., native completed 67-of-124 passes with a 14-3 touchdown to interception ratio. He compiled a quarterback efficiency rating of 158.73, ranking him third in the league. The sophomore slinger also compiled 1,067 passing yards and 106 rushing yards on 46 carries. The first-time all-league member scampered for two touchdowns during the 2016 campaign.
Burrell was the team's offensive captain as a senior and was Army's leading rusher for the fourth season in a row with 293 yards on 86 attempts. The Martinsburg, W. Va., native earned all-league recognition in all four seasons donning the black and gold, including being named to the first team in 2014 and 2015. He ended his career with 1,668 rushing yards.
Knight set personal bests in a plethora of categories on the defensive side of the ball, earning him the first all-league recognition of his career. His 31 tackles, in the form of 15 solos and 16 assisted, which included eight tackles for a loss of 41 yards and five sacks for a loss of 34 yards, were all single-season highs for the sophomore from Cleveland, Ohio.
Scroggins earned his first all-league honors after notching 39 tackles (13 solo, 26 assisted) and recovering a fumble. The West Palm Beach, Fla., native also contributed 8.5 tackles for a loss of 40 yards, including four sacks for a loss of 25 yards.
Marchillo was a staple of the Army defense that was the league's best scoring defense for the second year in a row. He earned his first all-league honors after setting personal bests in tackles (28), solo tackles (13) and assisted tackles (15). The Clinton, Wis., native notched six tackles for a loss of 26 yards, including 1.5 sacks for a loss of 16 yards, to go along with an interception and four pass break ups.
