Men’s Basketball Returns Home to Christl Arena

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point men's basketball team plays its first game in a week when it hosts Boston University on Wednesday evening at Christl Arena. The Black Knights and Terriers meet on the Patriot League Network in a 7 p.m. tip.

Last time out, Holy Cross erased an eight-point halftime deficit and benefitted by a pair of 20-point efforts by Malachi Alexander and Karl Charles to defeat Army 69-65 in Worcester, Mass. Kennedy Edwards scored 11 points and Dylan Cox added 10 for the Black Knights in the losing effort as Army was once again without leading scorer Tanner Plomb and leading rebounder Kevin Ferguson.
After an overtime victory over Loyola thanks to a 37-point effort by Eric Fanning, Boston University has dropped its last two games to Colgate and Bucknell despite holding leads in the second half of both contests.
The Army-Navy men's basketball game scheduled for Monday, Feb. 1 at Christl Arena will tip at 7:30 p.m. ET. The game will be broadcast online on the Patriot League Network by visiting PatriotLegaue.TV.
Army has made at least 10 three-pointers in 12 games and is averaging 9.9 three-point field goals per contest this season, which is 16th in the country. Kyle Wilson is ninth in the nation in threes per game with 3.53 per game. As a team, Army is shooting 36.9 percent from three-point range (188-of-509). 36.9 percent of Army's points have come via the three-pointer, a number that ranks 80th in the NCAA (KenPom.com).
The Black Knights have the 12th-ranked offensive tempo in the country according to Ken Pomeroy. Army's offense has an adjusted tempo of 74.5, which is an estimate of the possessions per 40 minutes a team would have against the average D-I tempo. Army's average offensive possession length is 14.7 seconds, which is 11th in the nation.
The Black Knights lead the conference in assists per game (17.2) and are 23rd nationally in that category. In 2015-16, Army is outrebounding its opponents by an average of 5.0 boards per game. The last time an Army team had a rebounding margin of better than five per game was in 1970 (+5.3).
Army has the top scoring offense in the Patriot League and is 34th in the nation with 81.1 points per game. In addition, the Black Knights lead the conference in scoring margin (+6.4). Army is unbeaten (5-0) when four or more players score in double figures.
Playing without Plomb the last three games, Army's offensive numbers have dipped. The Black Knights are shooting 21-for-65 (32.3 percent) from distance and are also averaging 65.3 points per game. Larry Toomey and Cox are each averaging 11.3 points per game during the stretch, while Kyle Wilson is scoring 9.7 points per game. Nathan Dodge, John Emezie and Luke Morrison have all seen an increase in their playing time and scoring totals, with Dodge averaging 7.5 points in two games without Plomb on the court.
