STORYLINES
Army returns to Christl Arena to host Holy Cross on Wednesday after extending its winning streak to four games at American on Jan. 16.
Senior Kelsey Minato, who became Army's career free-throws leader (currently at 514) after the Colgate game on Jan. 13, moved closer to another program record at American and now stands five field goals shy of passing Katie Macfarlane's (USMA '04) career mark of 706 field goals (Minato is currently at 702 field goals for her career).
With the win over American, tenth-year head coach Dave Magarity moved within four wins of reaching 500 for his career. Magarity's record over his 32-plus seasons as head coach is 496-441, including 23 years on the men's side. He is 183-108 since taking the position at Army prior to the 2006-07 season.
THE ARMY-HOLY CROSS SERIES
Holy Cross leads Army, 34-24, in an all-time series that dates back nearly 25 years to Jan. 23, 1991. The Black Knights have won three straight in the rivalry, with a streak that began with the Patriot League Championship victory in 2013-14.
ARMY WEST POINT (14-2, 5-1 PATRIOT LEAGUE) NOTES
• Minato scored 18 points for the second game in a row and shot 8-of-10 from the free-throw line to finish the week 18-of-20 from the charity stripe, after a 10-of-10 performance against Colgate on Jan. 13.
• Sophomore Janae McNeal registered 15 points on 7-of-9 shooting and came away with a career-high-tying three steals for the third time since arriving at West Point.
• Sophomore Aliyah Murray was Army's top contributor off the bench, with eight points and six rebounds, while senior Aimee Oertner totaled seven points and five boards. Murray and Oertner were instrumental in helping the Black Knights close out the win, as they scored six points and five points, respectively, in the fourth quarter alone, and helped Army end the game on a 12-4 run.
• The Black Knights earned the win at American despite going 0-for-6 from three-point range. The game marked only the fourth time in Magarity's nine-plus seasons that Army has gone without a three-pointer, and the first since shooting 0-of-6 from deep against Yale on Dec. 10, 2008 (62-60 win).
HOLY CROSS (7-10, 3-3 PATRIOT LEAGUE) NOTES
• Holy Cross dropped a narrow 61-58 decision at Lehigh in its last outing on Jan. 17.
• Senior Lisa Mifsud paced the Crusaders with 20 points on 7-of-15 shooting, while classmate Molly Hourigan (12 points, 14 rebounds) and sophomore Katie Doherty (10 points) also finished in double figures.
• Lehigh held an 11-point lead early in the second half before Holy Cross used a 21-4 run that extended into the fourth quarter to take a 50-44 advantage with 9:00 remaining.
• The Mountain Hawks came back with 10 unanswered points to move ahead 54-50, but the Crusaders regained the lead, 58-56, with 1:48 to play in the contest. Lehigh sealed the win by closing out the game with the final five points.
