Football Travels To Connecticut

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point football team plays its first road game 2015 season on Saturday afternoon against Connecticut at Pratt & Whitney Stadium at Rentschler Field. Kickoff is set for noon and the game will be televised live by CBS Sports Network.
On the call for the game will be Dave Ryan (play-by-play), Corey Chavous (color analyst) and Lauren Gardner (sideline). Saturday's game can also be heard on the radio via the Army Sports Network.
"We have a lot to learn from the game against Fordham," head coach Jeff Monken said at his weekly press conference. "Fortunately for us we are able to look at the film to analyze and evaluate what we have to do better and also see the things we did well and build off of those. Now we are going to prepare for UConn, which is an outstanding football team, they are a big, talented football team. They have guys who can run and looking at their special teams I was very impressed with their athleticism and it will certainly be a great challenge for us. We had a great game against them last year down at Yankee Stadium, it was a nip and tuck right to the end, a real battle and we were fortunate to win the game. I hope we can find a way to play well enough this week and muster enough plays to get on top and win."
The Black Knights took last season's meeting at Yankee Stadium by a 35-21 final thanks to a late interception return touchdown by Chris Carnegie. Carnegie's pick-six was one of several key plays for the Army defense on a day in which the offense ran wild for 325 yards. Carnegie's second of two interceptions in the game came after Connecticut trimmed Army's lead to a touchdown with two minutes to play and then recovered the ensuing onside kick at midfield.
Connecticut leads the all-time series against the Huskies with four wins in six meetings. UConn has won both home matchups with Army after taking the 2006 meeting by a 21-7 final score.
Army is 0-1 following a 37-35 setback to Fordham in its season-opener. UConn began its season with a 20-15 home victory against Villanova.
Sophomore quarterback Ahmad Bradshaw paced the Army offense a week ago. Making his first collegiate appearance, he rushed for 143 yards and passed for 107 yards and accounted for four touchdowns and a two-point conversion.
Jeremy Timpf led the defense with nine tackles, while Chris Carnegie registered six and a quarterback sack. Rhyan England, Andrew King and John Voit also collected six tackles. King recovered a fumble forced by Bayle Wolf.
Bradshaw's 100-yard rushing and 100-yard passing performance was the first for an Army quarterback in his debut
UConn was led by sophomore quarterback Bryant Shirreffs who threw for 202 yards and two scores in the season-opening win.
SCOUTING THE HUSKIES
UConn trailed Villanova 9-6 at halftime and rallied for a pair of second-half scores to edge the Wildcats.
Shirreffs was 12-of-19 passing for 202 yards with two scores and one interception. Ron Johnson rushed 22 times for 65 yards. Shirreffs' top target through the air was Tommy Myers, who hauled in two passes for 83 yards and a touchdown.
The Connecticut defense held Villanova to 114 yards rushing and 189 yards passing. Junior Joseph recorded a team-best nine tackles, while seven players combined for eight tackles for losses
