After ending the 2014 conference season in fourth place in the Patriot League standings, Army West Point was picked fourth in the 2015 preseason poll. Senior co-captain Katie Holder represented the Black Knights on the Preseason All-Patriot League Team after leading the squad with six goals last year. Holder, along with classmates Brooke Hepfer and Hanna Rozzi, will share the captaincy for McDermott's 2015 squad.
Nine of 11 players who registered a point in 2014 are back, including their top four scorers with Holder, junior midfielder Sam Gottlieb (4 G, 1 A,) sophomore midfielder Clare Shea (2 G, 1 A), a third-team All-League pick as a freshman, and Rozzi (2 G). In goal, Jordan Cassalia returns after compiling a 1.46 GAA in 18 starts as a sophomore.
Friday night's opposition, Sacred Heart, was picked to finish fifth in the Northeast Conference Preseason Poll. The Pioneers return a pair of All-NEC selections, led by junior forward Emily Dawidczyk who netted seven goals last season, to rank fourth in the conference and land on the All-NEC Second Team. Sophomore Kim McNally started every match on defense and earned both All-NEC Second Team and Rookie Team honors.
Following the home and season opening match, Army West Point will travel to Delaware for a Sunday afternoon tilt. The Blue Hens open their season on Friday as well against another Patriot League foe in Loyola Maryland, prior to hosting the Cadets at 1 p.m. Delaware returns 13 players with starting experience and was predicted to finish sixth in the Colonia Athletic Associate Coaches' Preseason Poll.
