December 13, 2015 | Football
WEST POINT, N.Y. - The 116th Army-Navy Game presented by USAA on Saturday pulled in its highest rating in 19 years with a 5.1 overnight rating on CBS, which was announced by the network on Sunday.
The game earned a preliminary average national household rating/share of 5.1/10, up 13% from last year's 4.1/10 and peaked at a 6.3 rating from 6:30-7 p.m. It was the highest rating since Army defeated Navy in 1996 in Philadelphia.
The 5.1 was also tied as the ninth-highest for any college football game this year, matching Michigan State's last-second win over Michigan in October.
Overnights for the Army-Navy Game presented by USAA have now increased for five consecutive seasons. Since moving to the week after the conference championship games in 2009, the rivalry has topped a 4.0 overnight in six of seven years.
This year's game was a competitive contest throughout and came down to the final minutes with Navy securing the 21-17 victory over Army. The Black Knights held a 17-14 advantage at halftime after touchdowns from Tyler Campbell and Edgar Poe. The Mids struck in the second half with Keenan Reynolds finding Jamir Tillman for the eventual game-winning touchdown pass in the third quarter.Â
America's Game returns to Baltimore for the 2016 contest and will be played at M&T Bank Stadium.
