WEST POINT, N.Y. – Army West Point men's soccer senior forward Cody Guerry was selected as the Army Athletic Association Athlete of the Week on Monday. The honor marks Guerry's second Athlete of the Week praise this season.
Guerry netted a pair of first-half goals to lead the Black Knights to a 2-1 Star victory over Navy on Nov. 3 at PPL Park in Chester, Pa. Guerry scored his first goal in the 19th minute to give Army a 1-0 lead before finding the back of the net again in the 28th minute to double the Black Knights' advantage.
Guerry's four points in the Navy game extended his point streak to four matches after he tallied assists against Loyola (Oct. 24) and Colgate (Oct. 28) and scored a goal versus Boston University (Oct. 31).
A native of Garland, Texas, Guerry leads Army with six goals, three assists and 15 points this season. His six goals and 15 points are the most for an Army player in a single season since Chris Conklin (USMA '08) finished with seven goals and 16 points in 2007.
Army (5-7-5 overall, 3-3-3 Patriot League) enters the Patriot League Tournament as the No. 6 seed and will face No. 3 American in the quarterfinals on Tuesday in Washington, D.C. The match is scheduled for a 2:05 p.m. kickoff.
