2016 Women's Lacrosse Schedule
WEST POINT, N.Y. – Noto Family Head Women's Lacrosse Coach Kristen Waagbo and her staff announced their team's 16-game 2016 schedule on Tuesday. The 2016 season will be Army West Point's first at the varsity level and the Black Knights will play all of their home games at Michie Stadium.
"Our staff and players are anxiously awaiting the start of our inaugural season," Waagbo said. "The debut of another Division I women's sport here at Army West Point is a big deal and our team has put in tremendous work this past fall to put us in a position to compete hard this spring. We look forward to taking the field on February 13th and writing a new chapter of history."
Army opens the season with four of its first five games at Michie Stadium, including three straight home contests to begin the year.
The Black Knights welcome Manhattan on Feb. 13 for their first-ever game as a Division I program before hosting Central Connecticut State on Feb. 20 and LIU Brooklyn on Feb. 25.
Army heads to Lowell, Mass., for a matchup against UMass Lowell in its first road contest of the season on Feb. 28, prior to returning home for a game against Quinnipiac on March 5.
Army closes out its nonconference slate with a two-game road trip to South Carolina to begin spring break week. The Black Knights travel to face Winthrop in Rock Hill, S.C., on March 12 before playing Presbyterian in Clinton, S.C., two days later on March 14.
With the addition of Army's women's lacrosse program, all 10 Patriot League schools will be represented in the sport for the first time in the league's 25-year history. Army begins Patriot League action on March 19 with a home contest versus Lafayette.
The Black Knights next hit the road for games against Bucknell (March 26) and Holy Cross (March 30) before returning to Michie Stadium to host Navy on April 2.
A matchup at Lehigh is scheduled for April 9, followed by Army's final two home contests of the regular season, against American on April 16 and Colgate on April 20.
The Black Knights are on the road twice to complete the regular season, as they make the trip to play Boston University on April 23 before meeting Loyola on April 30 in Baltimore, Md.
"Our conference has become increasingly competitive over the last few years," Waagbo said. "Playing against our nine Patriot League opponents during March and April will be a tough stretch of lacrosse, but we will undoubtedly learn a lot about ourselves and benefit from the rigor of our conference matchups. My hope would be to be competing in the Patriot League Tournament in May."
The top six teams at the end of the regular season will compete in the Patriot League Tournament, beginning with the quarterfinal round on May 3. The quarterfinals will feature matchups between the No. 3 and No. 6 seeds and the No. 4 and Nov. 5 seeds, to be played at the home field of the higher-seeded school.
The Patriot League semifinal and championship rounds are slated for May 6 and May 8, respectively, with the highest-remaining seed hosting both rounds.
