WEST POINT, N.Y. – Army West Point sprint football has earned two of the three Player of the Week honors for the second time this season as Warren Kay earned special teams honors and Arran Rounds earned defensive recognition, the Collegiate Sprint Football League (CSFL) announced Tuesday.
This is the second time this season that the Black Knights have earned multiple honors as Kay and sophomore defensive back Tanner Andrews were recognized after week one.
The senior kicker from Goshen, Ind., earned his second weekly honor of 2015 after being perfect on all four of his kicks in Friday's double-overtime win over Penn. He drilled a career-long 48-yard field goal in the second quarter before connecting from 24 yards in the first overtime and knocking through the game-winner from 34 yards in the second overtime.
"Every kicker dreams of making the game-winning field goal so I was extremely happy for Warren when that kick went through the uprights," said head coach Mark West. "His 48-yarder in the first half was impressive as well. He had a great night, and that's what I expect from him as a senior."
Rounds recorded a game-high 5.0 tackles for loss for 28 yards opposite the Quakers, including two sacks for 12 yards. The sophomore defensive lineman from Shawnee, Kan., led Army's defense in tackles with 11 and solo tackles with eight.
"Arran had a career night for us," said West. "He did a great job putting pressure on their quarterback all night and making him uncomfortable each time he dropped back."
The Black Knights will close out their season at home on Saturday against Navy at 2 p.m., with the team's seniors being recognized before the game. Special "Haunt Navy" t-shirts will be given out to the first 200 fans.
Army's Previous 2015 Honorees:
Week 1: Warren Kay - Special Teams Player of the Week
Tanner Andrews - Defensive Player of the Week
Week 5: Matthew Tamburri - Defensive Player of the Week
