WEST POINT, N.Y. - In celebration of 125 years of Army football, the Army Athletic Association is counting down the top 10 moments in program history each Wednesday during the remainder of the 2015 football season. A fan vote and a panel of athletic department officials combined to determine the list of top moments.
Number 8
Peel Chronister's two interceptions and defended two-point conversion helps Army to a 31-29 win over Illinois in the Peach Bowl (1985)
For the second consecutive season, Army met a Big 10 team in a postseason bowl game when it played Illinois in the 1985 Peach Bowl. Chronister set the tone early with a first-quarter interception that set up a 22-yard touchdown run by Rob Healy.
The Black Knights trailed 23-21 with 10 minutes to play before a 26-yard halfback option pass by Clarence Jones and a 39-yard field goal by Craig Stopa gave Army a 31-23 advantage with just over six minutes remaining.
The passing-oriented Illinois team pulled within two points on a 54-yard touchdown strike with 34 seconds remaining. Chronister denied a game-tying two-point conversion attempt when he batted the pass away as Army ended the season with nine victories for the first time since 1949.
