Halbrook Named Patriot League Rookie of the Week
October 19, 2015 | Women's Cross Country
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Freshman Abby Halbrook of the Army West Point women's cross country was named the Patriot League Female Rookie of the Week after finishing second in last weekend's dual meet versus Navy, it was announced the conference on Monday.
Halbrook completed her first Star Meet as the Black Knights' top runner with a 6K time of 22:24.58. It was the first time that the Tyler, Texas, native competed collegiately in a 6K race. It was also her first top-finish for Army in three races.
"Our staff is happy for Abby," said Director of Track and Field and Cross Country Mike Smith. "What you could see from this race is that Abby is very determined. No matter what event you put her in, she's going to give you the best she has.
"It wasn't a surprise to see her compete at that level, and we expect that she will continue to get better as she gets used to school here and her training. She's going to be a big part of the nucleus of what we build in the future. This is just the beginning for her."
Halbrook and the Black Knights return to action on Saturday, Oct. 31, for the Patriot League Championships at noon in Hamilton, N.Y.
